Dear Delta Gamma,
A little less than a year ago, I found myself 12 hours away from home at a school where I knew absolutely no one. I was desperate to make friends and find a group of girls that would have my back, make me laugh, and make Kent State feel like home. I never had a solid group of girls that I could rely on in high school, so I was determined to make sure that didn’t happen again in college. Growing up I had always heard great things about Delta Gamma and how being in a sorority can have such a positive impact on one’s college experience, so when sorority recruitment opened up, I decided to sign up for recruitment. The women that I talked to during recruitment were kind, genuine, funny, and people that I could see myself being lifelong friends with. As I went through the initiation process and got to know some of the girls in DG a little better, I was amazed by how accomplished and well-rounded they all were. Most of them seemed to have multiple jobs, be involved in clubs, volunteer in their free time, and still have time to get good grades and hang out with their friends. I was truly inspired by what I saw, and it made me want to become a better version of myself. After finishing my first year at Kent State, I can confidently say that I have found my solid group of girls and I couldn’t have done that without Delta Gamma. Whether I’m having a mental breakdown in the library, need a ride to a doctor’s appointment, or am feeling a little homesick, these girls are always there for me and have my back no matter what. I am so excited to see what my Sophomore year holds and what new friendships form as I live under the same roof with 30 of my sisters. Delta Gamma, thank you so much for making Kent my new home, I don’t know what I would do without this extraordinary sisterhood.
Love, Riggs Cunningham
