Dear Delta Gamma

Dear Delta Gamma,
I would like to start this off by saying I am the most indecisive person ever.
When I drove 18 hours to Kent from South Dakota freshman year, I knew no one except for my roommate. So, like everyone else I decided to go through sorority recruitment to find my ‘home away from home’. When I went through open house round, I instantly fell in love with Delta Gamma. I could easily open up to the girls I talked to and be myself. Ever since preference round I knew that I belonged there in some way. Bid day was (and is to this day) one of my favorite days ever because I gained over 100 sisters that shared the same love for the sorority as I did. When big little reveal came, I got the best big and grandbig ever and knew I could go to them for literally anything. I could officially say Delta Gamma became my home. There was just one problem. You see, I have a problem with ‘what if’s’. Like, what if I was supposed to put A instead of B for the test or what if I should’ve gotten Chic Fil A instead of Taco Bell. And in the middle of freshman year the biggest ‘what if’ came to my mind: What if I was supposed to be closer to home. What if I made a mistake by coming to Kent. So, in the middle of my freshman year I decided to move closer to home. It was the hardest decision to make. I was torn between transferring to the University of Minnesota, the school I always dreamed about getting into in high school or resuming my happy life in Kent and DG. I was so nervous to tell people but my big, my close friends at Kent, and everyone else in Delta Gamma supported me in my decision. So, I left Gamma Epsilon in the spring for what I thought was for good.
Flash-forward to Sophomore year fall. I was receiving emails for recruitment for the Lambda chapter and I was nervous to the core. I was so incredibly anxious about jumping into a whole new sorority, learning new names, and on top of that settle into a new school. My first day of work week for recruitment girls would come up to me and introduce themselves, ask me to go to the movies or have lunch with them. They helped me settle into the sorority and welcomed me with open arms. It was such a seamless transition and it made the school full of 48,000 students seem so much smaller. Throughout the semester, I became close with the girls and I would have dinner at the DG house with them, study together, and some would even give me rides to class. It was almost like I’d never left Kent State because I had a group of girls I could go to whether for homework help or needing someone to talk to. It felt good knowing that even though I was far away from my Kent State DG’s, these girls were just as sweet and supportive as they are.
Long story short, I ended up transferring back to Kent. Leaving the girls I just got to know was hard and definitely not easy. I knew for a fact thought that I would keep in touch with them all because when I transferred the first time I still had sisters 14 hours away that still rooted for me and supported me. Delta Gamma at Minneapolis was no different and now I can say I am connected to two sororities with the coolest girls ever.
Though transferring was a rollercoaster, however, I wouldn’t change anything. I am able to say I have two homes with girls that will have my back no matter what the distance. I have made new friendships and through my transferring experience I have learned that this ‘bond’ everyone talks about finding in a sorority- yeah, it’s real. I owe so many thanks to the girls at Lambda chapter and Gamma Epsilon chapter for showing me that Delta Gamma’s are women who lift each other up and will always be there for you.
