Meet Our VP of Membership: Brynn Pennell

“Enjoy these four years of college because they will go by in the blink of an eye, trust me,” was one of the most said things to me after I graduated high school. Boy, were those people that told me that right. Who would’ve thought that joining a sorority would’ve changed my life?

I remember being dragged to the Fraternity and Sorority Life festival on Welcome Weekend my freshman year. I had no intentions on joining a sorority. I just went with a new friend I made (who is now my best friend) for moral support. I left the festival in shock as to how much I enjoyed talking and getting to know every sorority. I had genuine conversations and I could picture myself being friends with these women. My outlook on sorority life then changed, and before you knew it I registered to go through formal recruitment.

One value I pride myself with is being genuine. I knew throughout the process, I didn’t want to end up anywhere where I wasn’t comfortable being my true authentic self. I didn’t want to put on an act to impress others, I just wanted them to like me for me. Delta Gamma is home for me. I’ve cried to them, laughed with them and been through some tough times with them. They accept me for me, and love me for being myself. I truly can say that my collegiate years wouldn’t have nearly been as enjoyable without Delta Gamma and the FSL community at Kent State.

I want potential new members to find their home away from home and to have the best recruitment experience possible. That’s why I ran for VP Membership for Delta Gamma. I remember being so intimated and nervous going through the rounds of recruitment, and my goal is to help PNMs ease their nerves and enjoy the process. Recruitment is my favorite time of the year! The sleepless nights preparing are worth it when you see potential new members running to their new homes with smiles on their faces.

PNMs - Don’t sweat the small stuff. No one is going to remember what outfit you wore or how you did your hair. The people met and the conversations had are what will be remembered. Focus on your values and what you want to get out of joining a sorority.

Delta Gamma - Thank you for trusting me to be your VP Membership this year. I have truly loved being a position holder and member, and I can’t wait to see you all at work week! LITB

FSL Community - These past years at Kent State would never have been the same without you all! This community has given me some of my best friends, amazing memories and the opportunity to support and take part in philanthropic causes so near to my heart! Counting down the days until I am reunited with you all this fall!
