My best friend from home and I made the decision to go through formal recruitment together our Freshman year. On Bid Day, we each joined different chapters. We support each other’s different chapters by attending their events and going to Panhellenic sisterhoods together. Being a part of the Panhellenic community has brought us closer together.
Everyone signs up for formal recruitment for different reasons, but everyone wants to find a group of girls who share the same values with them. When you find that group of girls and join that chapter you become a part of something that is bigger than yourself. What some women forget is that they also joined something even bigger than their chapter. They joined the strong, powerful group of women of the Panhellenic Community.
We are all connected through shared values as a Panhellenic community. The five Panhellenic values are: scholarship, sisterhood, philanthropy, service, and friendship. As sorority women, we strive to live these values within our own chapters and throughout our community.
I have been DG’s VP Panhel for a semester and I have become so much more involved in the Panhellenic community. This position has opened my eyes to all of the amazing women in our Panhellenic community. I have made so many new friends by going to other chapter’s events and going to Panhellenic sisterhoods. I am so grateful for this position for drawing me closer to my Panhellenic sisters.
Everyone knows the quote, “empowered women, empower women”. That is exactly what the Panhellenic community is all about. Kent State has eight chapters and each one is different from the others, but we are able to come together in friendship and support each other.
